Just cheering myself up (It just wasn’t Bayern’s night! :( ) with clips from the Ellen show.

Dampa (Cubao) is the office’s go to place for tons of affordable seafood and 5 peso per song videoke. We recently celebrated someone’s birthday and ordered all our favorites — ensaladang tagalog (green mangoes, onions, tomatoes, & bagoong), adobong kangkong, grilled stuffed squid, buttered shrimp, baked oysters, calamares, sinigang na salmon, and steamed crabs.

We usually call in the morning to reserve a room and place our orders so that we’re guaranteed an airconditioned room and very little waiting time once we arrive. The rooms are located on the second floor and they over-look the covered food court area where all the stalls are located. The rooms are actually large ares that are separated by accordion divisions, so larger groups can be accommodated if needed. As mentioned this area is air conditioned, a huge plus since summer has been extremely hot this year. Each area also has a videoke machine. It costs a 5 pesos coin for every song you want to sing. You can serenade your friends while they gorge on seafood or wow/annoy the groups in neighboring rooms with your vocal prowess. The dividers are of the plastic accordion variety, while they to provide a measure of privacy, they do close to nothing to keep out noise and over enthusiastic singing.

This is what my kikay kit looked like 6 years ago. My activities and budget have definitely changed since then, accordingly my kit has too.

I am still a great believer in the ponytail and Goody hair products. I still hoard Goody Ouchless and Stayput Slide-proof elastics. The claw clip is latest addition to my hair corralling tools. It’s pretty nifty, it actually stays in place and is soft enough to lean on — meaning I can lean my head back on the car seat without the claw digging into my scalp. The snap clips and bobbie pins, purchased “wholesale”, are for the days I don’t tie my hair up into a ponytail.

Wet wipes and oil sheets are still a kit staple. Life in Metro Manila is a constant battle against sweat, oil, and dirt. The bottle of PocketBac is an addition. I receive one annually without fail since it is a standard office Christmas gift. Cologne is necessary for killing the smell of the daily commute, smoke, hot pot lunches, etc…

The biggest change in my kit is the MAKE-UP. While I carry a lot of products now — powder, liner, eyeshadow, blush etc… I carry fewer multiples. I put make-up on in the car (It takes about 5 minutes now.), so I end up carrying all the stuff I need to do my face all day. Ideally, you should only be toting stuff needed for touch ups. (oil sheets, lip balm, maybe a translucent powder)

Make Up Designory (MUD) Cream Foundation in YG2 — While this is a full coverage cream foundation, I put on just enough with my fingers to even out my complexion or cover a few spots. YG2 is a better match for my skin than previous foundations and tinted moisturizers. It stays on all day and hasn’t caused me to itch or breakout.

NYX HD Studio Grinding Powder in True Beige — I use this to set my foundation. It’s just a little bit warmer than my actual color, so it prevents me from looking like a zombie. I like this more than MAC MSF because it doesn’t turn me orange and costs half the price.

The Body Shop Brow and Liner Kit in 02 Brown/Brunette — I’ve had this for YEARS, and I’m not even half way through it. I’ve since lost the foldable brush that comes with the compact. I use the darker shade to fill in my eyebrows, and the lighter shade as eye shadow (when I feel like wearing some.)

Mary Kay Cream blush in Sheer Bliss — I bought this from an aunt who sells Mary Kay cosmetics. It’s a very sheer rose blush. It’s so sheer, I have to be careful not to blend it out into nothingness. This pales in comparison to my Shiseido blush when it comes to pigmentation and staying power.

NYX Slide On Pencil in Brown Perfection — I used dark brown eyeliner instead of black because black tends to be too harsh for everyday use. This liner pencil is close to perfect — inexpensive, doesn’t budge at all, and doesn’t cause my eyes to water. I actually like it more than the Tony Moly gel liner since it is a lot darker.

The Body Shop Liquid Liner in 02 Brown - I switch around between pencil and liquid liner. I use liquid liner when I need to look a little more “polished”. This one is a nice dark brown, and the formula doesn’t flake or fade into a grey or light brown shade through the day (Hello Fashion 21 liquid liner), but it’s definitely a bit more pricey.

MAC Lip Conditioner in Petting Pink — I still haven’t really learned how to wear real lipstick. I’m still stuck in the tinted lip balm phase (Yay Revlon lip butters!) and I really like this peachy pink tinted lip balm, even if it is taking forever to finish.

I also carry around a small powder puff, for setting my foundation with powder and travel sized eye brush, for doing my eyebrows. Everything else is put on using my fingers. (An additional reason to bring wet wipes and anti-bacterial gel.)
